One of Tbilisi’s most unusual Soviet-era monuments — “Flight of Reason”

Created in 1961, it stood at the entrance of what is now Expo Georgia. The figure rising into the sky was meant to symbolize human thought, knowledge, and progress — a very optimistic idea of the time.

Even today, it still feels futuristic and a little dramatic, which is probably why it catches your eye straight away.

A striking Soviet modernist monument at Expo Georgia in Tbilisi, known as the “Monument to Creativity.”

Created in the 1960s by Georgian artist and sculptor Antimoz (Aliko) Gorgadze, the composition depicts a man, woman and child — often interpreted as a family. They hold symbols of a promised modern future: an atom for science, a gear for industry, and an airplane for technological progress.
Together, they reflect the optimism and futuristic ideals of the Soviet era.

Photo dump from a fascinating trip to the Tbilisi Locomotive Building Plant (TEMKA)! 🚂✨

A place steeped in history, where massive Soviet-era locomotives were once built and repaired. It was incredible to see these giants up close, and some are even still operational! Check out the intricate details, the sheer scale, and the sense of power that radiates from these machines.

The plant has an incredibly rich history, dating back to 1939. Did you know that TEMKA played a crucial role during WWII? They even produced armor for tanks and other military equipment. It was fascinating to learn about the people who worked here and the sheer impact this place had on the Soviet economy.

The plant is still active today, and it was amazing to see the dedication and passion of the workers who keep these machines running. A huge thank you to the team for the tour and the fascinating insights! If you get a chance, I highly recommend visiting this place. It’s a truly unique and unforgettable experience.
